The 9/11 monument in Sumas was the scene of a wreath-laying ceremony on Tuesday.

Abbotsford firefighters, police officers, border guards and others  joined their counterparts from Washington State in a memorial service at the Sumas Border Memorial on Tuesday morning.

It was the 11th anniversary of the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon on September 11. The attacks killed almost 3,000 people.

Abbotsford and Mission firefighters played a large role in the construction of the monument in Sumas, which is designed to look like the two towers of the World Trade Centre which were brought down.
