A second day of record-breaking heat in the 30s settled into the Fraser Valley.

Chilliwack saw a record max of 33.7 degrees Celsius on June 21, 2021, which was a whopping 13.1 degrees above normal, according to Roger Pannett, Chilliwack’s volunteer weather observer.

The ridge causing the sweltering heat moved into Fraser Valley communities on Sunday, and temps will be in the high 20s and low 30s the rest of the week.

The previous max record for June 21 was in 1990 when it hit 32, so it’s unusually hot.

“It was the hottest day since the record-breaking 35.8 degrees C on August 16, 2020,” Pannett wrote in his report.

It will be cooler Wednesday with a high of 25, as the ridge moves inland.

Temperatures will build up to Sunday with forecast max of 32 across the valley, as dry and hot conditions continue.
