RCMP ask for help to ID person who died in head-on collision in Chilliwack

3 people died last December when a car going the wrong way on Highway 1 slammed into another vehicle

RCMP and the BC Coroners Service are asking for help to identify a person who died in a car crash in Chilliwack last December.

Around 4 a.m. on Dec. 29 a car going the wrong way on Highway 1 hit another vehicle head-on near the Lickman Road exit.

The first vehicle had been driving westbound in eastbound lanes, fleeing from police, and both of the people in that car died at the scene. The car caught on fire, and while emergency responders were able to pull one body out, the second body was burned beyond visual recognition.

All the BC Coroners Service could determine for sure is that the person was a Caucasian female somewhere between the ages of 20 and 40. She stood between five-foot-two and five-foot-five and weighed between 95 and 116 pounds. She had an upper denture with her lower teeth in poor condition.

Police recovered two items of clothing they hope will help with the ID, black winter boots and McGill University rugby pants.

“We are reaching out to the public for assistance to identify the person who lost their life in this tragic incident,” said RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Rail.

A third person was killed in the crash, identified as corrections officer Gabe Choi, from the Mountain Institution Pacific Region Correctional Service of Canada. He was on his way to work when he was hit.

Anyone with information is asked to phone the Chilliwack RCMP at 604-792-4611 or dial Crime Stoppers anonymously at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
