Rash of stolen older Nissans in Abbotsford

Thieves are targeting the Townline Hill area of the city.

A car thief, or a group, is targeting older-model Nissan vehicles in the Townline Hill area of Abbotsford.

Const. Ian MacDonald said in the last three and a half weeks, 12 such vehicles have been stolen, including two over the last weekend.

Before that period, there had been only two thefts of Nissan vehicles so far in 2013.

MacDonald said the vehicles targeted range from economy cars to SUVs, and all were manufactured before 1995.

He said about half have been recovered in the Abbotsford area, while the other half have been found in other communities.

MacDonald said individual car thieves tend to have a preference for what type of vehicle they target.

"We obviously have someone, or a group of people, that are good at stealing Nissans," he said.

The Abbotsford Police Department (APD) offers free anti-theft devices for owners of older-model vehicles, through its community police office, located at 34194 Marshall Rd. For more information, call 604-864-4814.

To report a theft, call the APD at 604-859-5225.
