Preet Rai and Wendy Bales want to be the NDP candidate for the Abbotsford-Mission riding.

Abbotsford school trustee Preet Rai will be representing the Abbotsford-Mission riding for the BC NDP in the upcoming provincial election.

Rai was named the local NDP candidate over Deroche's Wendy Bales, following a nomination meeting Sunday at the Leisure Centre in Mission.

“I’m thrilled to be a part of Adrian Dix’s New Democrat team,” said Rai. “So many aspects of our community need a change for the better, and that’s what I can offer as the New Democrat candidate in Abbotsford-Mission. With the growing number of families in our community, it’s crucial that we take practical steps to create opportunities for our young people, like investing in skills training and post-secondary education. New Democrats are committed to making those investments, and I’m going to work every day of this campaign to help deliver that change for families in our community.”

Preet Rai is a chartered accountant from India, and has served on the Abbotsford school board since 2008. Rai immigrated to Canada in 1995, and is involved in community fundraising for the new Canuck Place Hospice in Abbotsford.

“Preet’s public service at the local level shows the strong experience he can bring to the BC Legislature,” says BC NDP Leader Adrian Dix. “I’m looking forward to campaigning with Preet in Abbotsford and Mission in the coming weeks and months.”
