Abbotsford Police Deputy Chief Rick Lucy was surprised to be presented with the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal at Tuesday’s police board meeting.

“It caught me off guard,” Lucy said upon accepting the medal.

The honour has bestowed across Canada this year – in honour of Queen Elizabeth II’s 60th anniversary on the throne – to those who have made significant contributions to their community or province.

Lucy’s award was presented by Dan Howe, CEO and president of Special Olympics B.C. Lucy has been involved with the organization since 1990 in numerous capacities, including the current provincial director of the Law Enforcement Torch Run.
