The City of Abbotsford is moving forward on plans for a pedestrian/cycling overpass along Salton Road.

The public will be able to weigh in this week on the city’s plan to build a bridge over Highway 1 for pedestrians and cyclists.

The city has budgeted $2.9 million of its own money and obtained a grant for another $1 million from the province to build a pedestrian bridge linking the UDistrict area near University of the Fraser Valley with the city’s urban core north of the highway.

The bridge would span the highway to link two now-unconnected stretches of Salton Road, just east of McCallum Road. The project would also include the construction of sidewalks and separated bike paths along Salton.

Council approved the project in mid-December. A public consultation meeting has now been set for Jan. 19 from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Abbotsford Centre.

Feedback can also be offered by emailing eng-info@abbotsford.ca, filling out the form here, or calling 604-864-5514. Staff will report back to council following the meeting.
