The average new house in Abbotsford has sold for more than $1.2 million over the last four months. Meanwhile, in Prince Edward Island, $1.25 million will get you an estate called “Salt Meadows” that boasts a six-bedroom house boasting a three-storey tower and a guest house, all located on a 100-acre peninsula overlooking a national park.
More than 60 homes are currently listed for more than $1.1 million in Abbotsford (compared to seven in PEI), and there’s nothing shabby about them.
One new house, for instance, listed for $1,189,000 has six bedrooms, five bathrooms and is 4,200 square feet – on a 7,250 square feet lot.
But that type of money goes a little further in the maritimes, wh
en it comes to the amount of land you get, and where it’s located. In particular, a million dollars will often get you dozens of acres of waterfront property and your own private beach in the maritimes
The Salt Meadows property has, according to the selling agent “Some 5,000 feet of shoreline offer a diverse mix of bayfront, riverfront and creekfront. Beach, kayaking and canoeing are accessible via a grassy lane.
“At the shore, trails lead up to a picturesque point giving breathtaking views of Bay, National Park and the Gulf beyond. Through the woods bordering Matheson Creek, another trail links the property’s eastern fields with the creek area.”
And it’s not in the middle of nowhere. Salt Meadows is a 20-minute drive to Charlottetown.
But if PEI isn’t to your liking, in New Brunswick you can get a five-year-old, six-bedroom home on 50 acres and its own oceanfront beach.
