Police investigating central Abbotsford shooting

One man is in hospital and another individual has been arrested following a Monday evening shooting in central Abbotsford, according to a police news release.

The release says Abbotsford Police responded to a call of a possible car crash on Hawthorne Avenue at 10:57 p.m. followed by more calls from the area reporting gunshots.

Police say a man with an apparent gunshot wound arrived at Abbotsford Regional Hospital soon after. He remains in hospital where he is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Officers responding to the scene spotted a damaged car leaving the area and arrested the driver, the news release says.

Police say the motive is unknown at this time but the incident “does not appear to be associated to the Lower Mainland Gang Conflict.”

APD’s major crime unit is investigating the incident and its forensic officers are collecting evidence, according to the release.
