Police were called to the scene of Chief Dan George middle school in Abbotsford this afternoon after kids in the area reported seeing what they thought was a man walking with a weapon.
The school was placed in "shelter" mode – one phase below a full lockdown – for about 50 miinutes, starting at around 1 p.m., while police tried to locate the man.
"Shelter" means all school doors and windows are closed and locked. In a full lockdown, occupants are also isolated into particular areas.
School district spokesman Dave Stephen said the school had an early-dismissal day, just before noon, and only a handful of students, a few parents, and staff were still in the building at the time of the incident.
