Mounties in Burnaby are looking for a suspect in a child-luring incident.

An eight-year-old girl was approached by a stranger last Friday at 3 p.m. a few blocks away from Boundary and Hastings, near Gilmore Elementary.

The man asked the girl if she needed a ride home, police said, and offered her candy and tried to grab her hand.

The suspect is described as around 70 years old, with a long grey and white beard and wearing ripped brown clothes.

No other incidents have been reported.

"Parents should always be vigilant about their child's safety," said Cpl. Daniela Panesar. "This is a good opportunity for parents to talk to kids about being safe."

Anyone with information is asked to call the Burnaby RCMP Investigative Support Team at 604-294-7922 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
