It was a pub and restaurant. Now it’s just Building K, the newest part of the University of the Fraser Valley.
In September of 2018, the university bought the building that once housed Finnegan’s Pub and the Phoenix Ballroom for nearly $10 million.
UFV renovated the building, creating 10 classrooms, two drop-in student labs and one meeting room. Renovations on the building took a year, and were mostly completed by November, when the first students and faculty began using the site.
An official opening is slated for Friday.

The university is renovating two other major buildings, and needed space for relocated classes while construction continues. As construction progresses through the buildings, classrooms will rotate in and out of the new site.
Eventually, the university hopes to construct a “multimedia performance lab” and “Centre for Innovation and Entrepreneurship” in the building at a cost of $10 million. Three-quarters of that would be covered by the university, with provincial funding needed for the rest, according to UFV’s new capital plan.
