The BC Coroners Service has confirmed that a person died Tuesday in Abbotsford following reports that a vehicle was sinking in Sumas River.

Spokesman Andy Watson said the investigation is continuing but the circumstances are not considered suspicious.

Emergency crews were called out at about 3:30 p.m. to the 37000 block of Eldridge Road on Sumas Prairie, just west of North Parallel Road, in a pullout area between the road and the river.

A witness said emergency crews appear to have made attempts to access the vehicle under the water, and a tow truck later pulled the sedan from the river.

The deceased person was the lone occupant of the vehicle.

No further details have been released by police or the Coroners Service.
