Pedestrian struck in Abbotsford hit-and-run dies two days later

A pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle whose driver fled the scene in Abbotsford on Friday, Dec. 16 has died of her injuries.

Family members have identified the victim as 47-year-old Laurie Brietzke, a mom of two sons. Brietzke had recently moved to Abbotsford from Kelowna to be with her fiance.

The collision took place around 7:45 p.m. Friday at Bevan Avenue and Gladwin Road.

The driver of the vehicle that hit her fled the scene, but was located by police shortly after. Police said in a press release on Saturday (Dec. 17) that the driver had been identified and was being questioned by police.

Brietzke was taken to hospital, where she died of her injuries on Sunday, Dec. 18, according to family members.

The investigation is continuing, and no charges have been laid at this time.

Investigators continue to seek witness and dashcam footage from the area around the time of the collision. Anyone who can assist is asked to call the Abbotsford Police Department at 604-859-5225.
