Over $20,000 in contraband was seized by correctional officers at Matsqui Institution on July 2, according to Correctional Service Canada (CSC).

The unauthorized items seized at the medium security institution include USB sticks and drugs, said a July 6 news release from CSC.

“At about 4 p.m., as a result of the vigilance of staff members, a package containing contraband and unauthorized items was seized,” the release said.

“CSC is heightening measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions.”

CSC mentioned the tools they use to prevent drugs from entering institutions, which include ion scanners and drug-detector dogs to search inmates, visitors and buildings.
