An online fundraising campaign is underway for an Abbotsford man who has been sick with a rare genetic liver disease for many years and recently had a transplant.
Mark Davis and his wife Natasha have two kids – Cole, 5, and Claire, 3. Mark, who worked at a security company and is the family’s main breadwinner, has spent much of the past year in and out of hospital. Last week, the family’s car broke down and cannot be repaired.
Mark’s condition is called Caroli’s syndrome, which causes scarring on the liver and can lead to high blood pressure in the veins in the liver as well as problems with the bile ducts.
Mark has had 12 septic infections since December 2019. He stopped working and went on long-term disability in October 2020.

He was on the waiting list for a transplant and found out on Aug. 3 that a match had been found. Surgery took place Aug. 5, and Mark is currently recovering at Vancouver General Hospital.
Family friend Alanna Randhawa started a GoFundMe campaign to help provide a reliable vehicle for the family.
“They are living off minimal income and will need to go into more debt to purchase one. Mark will need to travel to Vancouver three times a week while he recovers,” she said.
Randhawa said Mark faces a long road to recovery and it’s uncertain when he will be able to return to work.
The goal for the GoFundMe campaign is $20,000 to cover the cost of a vehicle and other expenses as Mark recovers.
“Mark is an amazing person and friend. He is always kind, he is generous and always helping others himself,” the GoFundMe page states.
