An Auguston strip mall was evacuated Saturday just after noon, as smoke billowed into shops.

Koni Siba, who owns Auguston Mini Mart in the Auguston Parkway building, said he was working when smoke began to fill his shop.

He said he was worried there might being children in the building but was relieved to find out the daycare next door was empty.

Assistant fire chief Ron Hull said no one was hurt in the fire and it was quickly put out when crews arrived.

He said the fire appears to have started in the building’s walls but the cause is unkown at this time.
