No flooding expected in Mission

District of Mission officials are unconcerned about the rising Fraser River.

According to Mission Fire/Rescue Service Chief Ian Fitzpatrick, who also doubles as the local emergency preparedness coordinator, he sees "no immediate concern given the river is expected to rise to 6.04 metres [Thursday] morning."

This level is estimated to remain static for approximately half the day, and then start to recede.

"At 6.04 m, the water is not likely to spill over the natural banks," Fitzpatrick said in a press release.

As of Wednesday at noon, the river was sitting at 5.651 metres on the Mission Bridge gauge.

Municipal staff will be regularly monitoring the Silverdale dike, and some of the lower elevation areas on the Hayward Street and Wilson Street corridors. However, no flooding is anticipated, he said.
