Highway 1 was closed for hours on Monday (May 29) after a truck hit the overpass at No. 3 Road and caught fire, engulfing the overpass. Emil Anderson Contracting will conduct a lane closure in the westbound fast lane starting at 9 p.m. (Abbotsford Police Department photo)

A fiery crash that caused Highway 1 to be closed for most of the day westbound through Abbotsford will affect traffic a little bit more starting Monday night at 9 p.m.

A gravel truck hit the No. 3 Road overpass at the beginning of the Monday morning rush hour, and that truck caught fire. The fire engulfed the overpass, which was also closed for several hours. While the highway was opened at about 2 p.m., there is a fast-lane closure Monday night as the highway contractor surveys the damage.

Emil Anderson announced on their Facebook page that there will be a westbound closure at the No. 3 Road overpass beginning at 9 p.m. The post does not include an end time for the closure, but reminds drivers to obey the speed limit reduction and use caution around their workers. The highway will remain open in both directions.

There was a second crash into a Fraser Valley overpass later Monday morning, at the 264th Street overpass through Langley, again in the westbound lanes. There have been several crashes into overpasses in the region in the last few months.
