Nearly $50,000 in contraband seized at Kent Institution

Meth, marijuana, tobacco seized in two-month operation

Contraband with an institutional value of $48,000 was seized and analyzed over the course of two months at the Kent Institution.

According to a release from Correctional Service Canada, CSC staff seized four packages and 1 ounce of THC butter, 2 bales of tobacco, four USB readers, sim cards, 52 nicotine patches, two cell phones, two stabbing weapons, 5.5 grams of marijuana, 86 grams of crystal meth, two sets of “remnants of an unmanned air vehicle”, 27.9 grams of shatter, two micro SD chargers, an unidentified powder, 10 grams of cocaine.

RCMP and CSC investigation into other items of contraband is ongoing.

“CSC is heightening measures to prevent contraband from entering its institutions in order to help ensure a safe and secure environment for everyone,” the CSC said in a statement. “CSC also works in partnership with the police to take action against those who attempt to introduce contraband into correctional institutions.”

The CSC has a tip line for all federal institutions to receive reports of information concerning institution security, including drug use or trafficking. The toll-free number is 1-866-780-3784. The CSC works to ensure the information shared is protected and the callers remain anonymous.
