Emergency crews were called to the scene of a motorcycle crash at Highway 11 (the Abbotsford-Mission Highway) and Sumas Way on Monday morning at approximately 10:30 a.m.

A 24-year-old Surrey woman was headed south on Highway 11 and made a left turn on to Sumas Way when she lost control of her Yamaha and it landed in a water-filled ditch on the south side of the road.

Police, ambulance and fire crews were called to the scene. An air ambulance transported the woman to hospital. Her  injuries are considered serious but not life-threatening.

Abbotsford Police Acting-Sergeant Roger Gosal said neither speed nor alcohol are being considered as contributing factors.

“There appears to be some type of mechanical issue that may have been involved that contributed to the crash,” said Gosal.

Police are continuing their investigation.

The woman was riding alongside her boyfriend when she lost control of the motorcycle.
