A mother bear and her cub were spotted in Palfy Park on Tuesday.
A local woman was walking her child home from Thomas Swift Elementary School when the bears were seen at the park on Laburnum Avenue.
Abbotsford Police Const. Ian MacDonald said the bears “were not aggressive in any way but it startled her nonetheless.”
The conservation office was alerted by Abbotsford police and will “work on a relocation plan if necessary” for the bear and cub.
“For now it is observation only. We just want folks to be bear aware,” said MacDonald, adding that people should not try to interact with the “cute cub” as the mother bear is close by and will be protective.
