An Abbotsford man who is awaiting sentencing on a drug conviction has been charged with two more offences.
Manindervir Virk, 23, was charged March 14 with obstructing a police officer and driving while prohibited.
Abbotsford Police Const. Ian MacDonald said officers pulled over a vehicle on Jan. 31 after a licence plate check indicated the car was owned by Virk, a prohibited driver.
MacDonald said Virk was allegedly discovered to be behind the wheel, and then supposedly provided a false name to the officers. He was arrested at the scene.
He next appears April 23 in court on those charges.
Meanwhile, Virk is slated to be sentenced Aug. 27 in B.C. Supreme Court in Chilliwack, along with co-accused Randeep Match, 30, also of Abbotsford.
The two were convicted last fall of possession for the purpose of trafficking in connection with a 2009 incident in which they were found in an Abbotsford berry field, near the Canada-U.S. border, with four cocaine-filled bags.
Last month, Virk received a 45-day conditional sentence (house arrest) and a five-year firearms ban for an assault conviction related to an August 2011 incident.
