Mission will continue to be policed by the RCMP.

In a statement issued by the district, the new Municipal Police Unit Agreement will provide for greater RCMP consultation, transparency and accountability with the municipality.

While there are costs yet to be resolved, these can be negotiated outside the agreement in the coming months, reads the statement.

Mission will sign the renewal which allows for pay increases that caught mayors of other municipalities off guard. But in a previous interview with Adlem, the mayor said he wasn't concerned because an increase for police services had been budgeted.

Cities have been notified of RCMP pay hikes of 1.7 per cent in 2012, retroactive to Jan. 1, 1.5 per cent next year, and two per cent beginning in 2014.

Adlem has said there is a two-year opt-out clause if the district isn't happy.

Mission's RCMP detachment currently costs roughly $9.5 million annually.
