The Abbotsford Police Department (APD) is reporting a nine per cent increase in the number of mischief-related incidents in the city since June 1, compared to the same period in 2013.
Const. Ian MacDonald said there have been 233 such incidents this year during that time.
He said many of these crimes have involved damage to city property, such as public washrooms.
"From broken windows to graffiti on signage and buildings, all of this destruction results in thousands of dollars of costs to the taxpayers of Abbotsford," MacDonald said.
Many private buildings have also been damaged, he said.
He said residents are encouraged to report suspicious activity and to be mindful that this type of damage is "highly conspicuous."
MacDonald said people participating in such behaviour can often be spotted carrying pellet guns, sprays cans, axes and other tools.
