Mexx at HighStreet in Abbotsford will be closing after the fashion retailer – which has 95 stores in Canada – declared bankruptcy.

Fashion retailer Mexx, which operates an outlet at HighStreet in Abbotsford, is closing all its stores after declaring bankruptcy in December.

Mexx operates 95 locations across Canada.

In a release announcing the closure of all stores, Gordon Brothers Group stated that the company had been "struggling against competition from both online and other brick and mortar retailers."

The company owes more than $100 million to creditors.

The company has 1,700 employees. About 25 locations were expected to be closed by the end of last week, with five more stores shuttered by the end of the month, a bankruptcy trustee told Canadian Press.

The Abbotsford Mexx remains open. An employee at the store said they don't know when the location will be closed.
