A small memorial has been set up at the site where a five-year-old Abbotsford girl was struck by a car on Tuesday night, resulting in her dying from her injuries the following day.

A photo at the scene identifies the child as Iknoor Sidhu and shows her clutching a toy panda.

"In loving memory of Iknoor Sidhu: October 3rd 2008 – May 28th 2014" reads the message.

A bouquet of pink roses and a burning candle were also at the scene on Friday morning, in a laneway west of Fieldgate Street and north of Blueridge Drive in west Abbotsford.

Yellow crime-scene tape was still stretched across the fence lining the backyard of the home from where Iknoor apparently ran into the path of an oncoming car.

Dave Stephen, communications manager with the Abbotsford school district, confirmed that Iknoor was a kindergarten student at Harry Sayers elementary, which has been struggling to deal with the loss.

"Our district response team is at the school today to support the administrators, help in talking to students in the young victim's class, and support teachers and staff as needed," he said on Thursday morning.

The collision took place just before 6 p.m. on Tuesday. Iknoor apparently ran out of a gate into an alley and was struck by a westbound Toyota Corolla.

Abbotsford Police Const. Ian MacDonald said the 42-year-old female driver and her passenger remained on the scene.

Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service and BC Ambulance personnel provided medical treatment for the girl, and an air ambulance was called to the scene to transport her to hospital.

Iknoor died in hospital late Wednesday afternoon.

MacDonald said police are continuing to investigate the incident, and it is not known yet whether the driver could face any charges.
