Matthew’s House, an Abbotsford respite care home for children with complex healthcare needs and their families, has expanded capacity from two children to five.
The facility opened in November and was able to provide care for two children. After completing licensing requirements through Fraser Health Authority – meaning the facility has met standards for care provided to children and families – it can now serve the full five-bed facility.
“Licensing is important because it gives parents the assurance that their children will be safe here,” said Matthew’s House manager Wendy Toohey.
Minister of Finance Michael de Jong toured Matthew’s House on Wednesday and offered appreciation for the service Matthew’s House is now providing.
“You can immediately understand why parents and families are comfortable here…They can feel the love, which translates to healthier families.”
Construction of Matthew’s House was funded in part by a $1 million gift from the provincial government.
The ongoing operation of Matthew’s House is supported by donations from partners and individuals in the community.
