A lockdown is in place until further notice at Matsqui Institution in Abbotsford following an inmate assault that took place Friday evening.
The prison issued a press release Monday afternoon to advise that visits have been suspended at the medium-security facility to allow staff time to conduct a thorough search.
The assault occurred just after 7 p.m. Friday, but no further details have been released.
“Normal operations will resume as soon as it is considered safe to do so,” said assistant warden Gordon Tanner in the press release.
He said the Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) will continue to review the circumstances surrounding the incident and take the appropriate measures.
