A man wanted for the robbery of two Abbotsford businesses an hour apart on Oct. 22 has been arrested and charged.
Kerry Paul Morin, 25, of no fixed address, was arrested on Thursday just after noon by members of the Abbotsford Police Department's emergency response team and major crime unit.
He was walking in the 9500 block of 199A Street in Langley at the time of the arrest.
Const. Ian MacDonald said Morin was being tailed by police, who had been keeping an eye on him and were waiting for the best time to make an arrest.
Morin has now been charged with two counts of robbery and two counts of using an imitation firearm.
The robberies occurred at about 4:45 p.m. at the Red Apple Food Store on Marshall Road and at 5:40 p.m. at the Esso convenience store on Huntingdon Road on Oct. 22.
In the first incident, the suspect was wearing a dark hoodie and a ball cap with the rim turned forward.
In the second robbery, the man was wearing a white zip-up jacket and had turned the ball cap around.
In both cases, he wore sunglasses and was carrying a handgun.
In an effort to identify the suspect, police released a photo on Oct. 23 that was obtained from security video of the Red Apple robbery.
They followed that with the release of the video on Oct. 31.
MacDonald said these releases resulted in dozens of tips to police and helped lead to Morin's arrest.
"The stuff we received from the public was extremely helpful," he said.
Morin's only prior criminal conviction in B.C., according to the provincial court database, is for driving while prohibited in Abbotsford in 2007.
He has been released from custody on $1,000 bail and is next scheduled to appear in court on Jan. 6 on the robbery charges.
