Police have closed off areas of Mill Lake Park on this morning (Wednesday) as they investigate a man's brutal beating.

A man who was found severely beaten in Mill Lake Park in Abbotsford has been airlifted to hospital in serious condition.

Abbotsford Police, Fire Rescue Service and paramedics were called to the scene at about 4 a.m. today (Wednesday) after receiving reports of a stabbing. When they arrived on scene, they discovered a 30-year-old man who was the victim of a brutal beating.

He was apparently found by a passerby on the pathway near the first set of benches on the east side of the park, not far from the parking lot located on Mill Lake Road.

It is believed the man was with a group of people, who left the scene and are now asked to contact police. The attack is not believed to be gang-related.

Const. Ian MacDonald said the victim is known to police for petty crimes.

The man was first taken by ambulance to Abbotsford Regional Hospital, and was then airlifted from there to another Lower Mainland hospital.

Investigators are on the scene, and have cordoned off most the area of the park that is west of the parking lot.
