Man charged with arson for 'suspicious' fire at Surrey RV park

Fire crews in Surrey quickly extinguished a fire at a mobile home and RV park on June 20. A suspect has now been charged in the arson.

A man from Surrey has been charged in the "suspicious" fire from June that saw a mobile home engulfed in flames in Newton.

On June 20, a fire at an RV park was called in at about 5:30 p.m. in the 8200-block of King George Boulevard. More than 15 firefighters responded and successfully extinguished the blaze that affected a trailer at the site. No injuries were reported at the time.

Steven Evans, 46, was arrested and then charged for two counts of arson to property and one count of uttering threats, Surrey RCMP state in a news release Thursday (July 18).

Evans was located by the RCMP's General Investigation Unit (GIU) on Friday (July 12) and is in custody until his next court date, Surrey RCMP state.

The B.C. courts website shows that Evans is expected in Surrey provincial court on Friday (July 19) and Wednesday, July 24.
