A 59-year-old Abbotsford man has been arrested and charged after he had a fake gun for the second time this year.
Abbotsford Police Sgt. Judy Bird said patrol officers were called to the 33900 block of Gladys Avenue in east Abbotsford at about 2:20 p.m. on Saturday after calls came in about a man polishing a silver handgun under a tarp. (A homeless camp is located in that area.)
Officers arrived, found the man and arrested him for possession of a firearm, which was later determined to be an imitation, Bird said. Another fake gun and a knife were also found under the tarp, she said.
Bird said the accused, identified as Robert Vicario, was charged with two counts of breaching his court release orders, which include not being in possession of any weapons.
Bird said Vicario was previously charged in June of this year after police were called about a man walking in a parking lot and carrying a firearm.
He was charged with breaching his probation and possessing a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
Vicario has been released from custody.
Bird said officers respond to all firearm calls as though they are real until they are otherwise determined to be replicas.
“Those who use and possess replica firearms are urged to exercise caution when displaying and transporting them,” she said.
