A fire burned down Lou's Grill in Abbotsford earlier this month. The owner of the establishment has said he plans to rebuild the popular restaurant.

Lou's Grill will rise from the ashes to serve the community once more.

That's the vow general manager Michael Loukas is making to the public, saying the local institution, owned by his parents, aims to reopen next summer.

The restaurant was gutted by flames in the early morning of Oct. 6, in a fire that investigators later deemed accidental.

Loukas also said the entire staff of 55 will stay on the payroll during the rebuilding process.

"Our staff is loyal to Lou's Grill and we are loyal to them," he said in an email.

The community has reached out and helped, according to Loukas.

"We are so humbled from the support and reaction that we have received from our community," he stated.

He said that he was most happy that no one was hurt in the blaze and praised the firefighters and police who were involved in combating the blaze.

"It is amazing what they do," he said.
