The 77th London Drugs location opened its doors in Abbotsford this morning (May 31) at the Highstreet shopping centre on Mt. Lehman Road.

By 9 a.m. a large crowd of customers was lined up in front of the location, waiting to get in. At the front of the line was Darlene Gifford.

Gifford arrived just before 6 a.m. to ensure she would be the first to enter. After a three hour wait and a ribbon cutting ceremony, she achieved her goal.

"'Well, I came out because I love London Drugs, for one thing. I shop there often. It's sort of a new thing. This is a new mall and it was really exciting to be a part of it," she explained.

Gifford and the next two customers to enter received gift baskets to commemorate the opening.

John Tse, vice-president of pharmacy and cosmetics for London Drugs, called Gifford a "dedicated customer."

"We have great, loyal customers that follow us."

He was pleased by the crowd that came out.

"We are very excited about this opening because its a new concept store for London Drugs. It's the first of its kind for British Columbia," he said.

The 36,219 sq. ft. store features London Drugs’ new store design with an open technology environment to support customers’ needs for home and office, making shopping a simpler experience. The addition of the 270 sq. ft. Learning Lab provides London Drugs the opportunity to host various training sessions, clinics, workshops and education seminars in a focused learning environment for our staff and customers.

A full-service Canada Post Office will also be part of the new store, located at (Unit L 110, 3122 Mt. Lehman Rd.) just off Highway 1.

On Saturday, June 1 and Sunday, June 2, London Drugs will be hosting activities inside and outside the store for customers including a barbecue on Saturday and live media remotes with giveaways throughout the weekend.

London Drugs joins Walmart, Marshall's and Bouclair Home as the first four tenants in the shopping complex.
