Rumours that the inaugural season of the Lingerie Football League (LFL) Canada has been postponed are based on a misunderstanding, according to league officials.
The BC Angels will still face the Regina Rage at the Abbotsford Entertainment and Sports Centre on Aug. 25 to launch the new league, despite an announcement made last week that the LFL schedule was being postponed.
The confusion lies in the fact that there are two leagues, the new Canadian group and the established American slate.
In a written statement, LFL commissioner Mitchell Mortaza said despite the U.S. league’s success, “We feel that our U.S. franchise can reach greater heights with a shift of our regular season schedule from a fall and winter format to spring and summer schedule.”
The league has “officially moved, not suspended, the LFL U.S. season to April 2013.”
Mortaza went on to say the change in format will allow them to focus on international growth which includes “the premiere of LFL Canada (fall 2012) and LFL Australia (summer 2013).”
The inaugural Canadian league will consist of the Toronto Triumph, BC Angels, Regina Rage and Saskatoon Sirens. Each final roster is expected to consist of 20 players, with 14 active on game days.
The BC Angels have scheduled a second open tryout, for Sunday, April 22, from 1-3 p.m. at Andy Livingstone Field (98 Keefer St.) in Vancouver.
Prospective athletes should come prepared to participate in strength, speed and agility drills. Also, dress attire is “cute gym wear” (sports bra and shorts) with sneakers or cleats, if on a grass surface. In addition, athletes are asked to bring a photo to leave behind and to arrive 30 minutes before the scheduled start time.
