Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning, forecasting light snow and freezing rain throughout the eastern Fraser Valley today, including Abbotsford.

Many roads are slippery and police advise drives to exercise caution when driving. The forecast calls for these conditions to change over to steady rain later in the day.

Environment Canada has said a major winter storm is moving across Coastal BC today.

Mixed rain and wet snow has developed across Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley. The precipitation will switch over to snow over the Fraser Valley and higher elevations of Metro Vancouver this morning as the precipitation intensifies.

Environment Canada states that the snow will change to heavy rain this afternoon as warm Pacific air invades the region, with freezing rain is likely to occur over the eastern Fraser Valley tonight. Heavy rainfall amounts of more than 50 mm are expected tonight through Monday.

Residents are advised to prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become difficult to navigate due to accumulating snow. Consider postponing non-essential travel until conditions improve. Winter storm warnings are issued when multiple types of severe winter weather are expected to occur together.
