A Diwali celebration was held at Abbotsford Community Library on Saturday.

The event, sponsored by the Abbotsford Libraries and Abbotsford Community School, featured crafts, entertainment, refreshments and more.

Diwali, also known as the Festival of Lights, is a five-day Hindu festival which this year falls on Sunday, Nov. 3.

The holiday originated as a harvest festival that marked the last harvest before winter. For those of the Hindu faith, this is the most important festival of the year, and is celebrated by families performing traditional activities at home.

The festival is a celebration of the triumph of good over evil.

The University of the Fraser Valley and many local schools also held Diwali celebrations.
