While some Liberals have expressed reservations about their government's decision to approve the expansion of the Trans Mountain Pipeline from Alberta to B.C., Liberal Mission-Matsqui-Fraser Canyon MP Jati Sidhu has no such doubts.

Sidhu said Thursday that the decision was "a good day for B.C. and it's the best day for Alberta," and was in the national interest.

He said the pipeline will better allow Canada to get its oil to market while creating thousands of jobs.

And he said transporting oil by pipeline is better than the alternative.

"One-third of the oil now is being shipped by rail," Sidhu said. "Now at least this is a safer way to transport oil."

While the majority of Liberals have been supportive of the decision to green-light the project, Vancouver MPs Joyce Murray and Hedy Fry said they wished the pipeline had not been approved.
