One woman is under arrest after a fire broke out in a barn in rural Abbotsord.
Flames erupted from the barn, located near the intersection of Angus Campbell and Vye roads, just before 10 a.m. The barn was quickly engulfed in flames, and smoke could be seen from several kilometres away.
As fire crews rushed to quell the blaze, Abbotsford police arrived on scene, handcuffed a woman near the site of the fire and placed her in the back of a vehicle.
Abbotsford Police Const. Ian MacDonald said police had received a call from a distraught woman this morning, who then hung up. They traced the call to the Angus Campbell road area minutes before fire crews were called to the fire in the same area.
MacDonald said they located the caller, a woman in her early 50s, on scene. She is believed to have been suffering from mental health issues.
A neighbour said the barn was part of a chicken operation, but it’s unclear whether any chickens were actually inside the structure when it caught fire. A second barn at the site was unaffected.
Watch for more.
Smoke has died down slightly here. But it's done this a couple times now then shot back up. #Abbotsford pic.twitter.com/qMpAaiXZz8

Flames suddenly started shooting up more. Looked like it could have been the roof fully catching fire. pic.twitter.com/zhosIcZKGa
