The Abbotsford Police Department suspects that a dark-coloured pickup truck distributed hate literature in Abbotsford on Sunday morning.

Police are investigating after plastic bags containing KKK literature were distributed to dozens of east Abbotsford homes late Saturday around midnight.

Police say they were called Sunday morning after a resident in the 35200 block of Marshall Road found a bag containing Ku Klux Klan material on his driveway.

The APD subsequently found 70 bags on several streets.

The pamphlet disparaged Martin Luther King Jr., whose birthday is celebrated in the United States as a federal holiday on Jan. 16.

From security video, police identified a dark-coloured pickup truck – possibly a Dodge Ram – as a suspect vehicle.

Police are also analyzing the bags for fingerprints and consulting with the BC Hate Crime Team.

"This is the second time in the last three months that KKK literature has been distributed in this manner," APD Const. Ian MacDonald said in a news release. "We appreciate the citizens who reported these incidents and expressed their disgust for the material on both occasions."

In October, Ziploc bags containing a one-page flyer titled “Loyal White Knights of the Ku Klux Klan” with a small amount of rice for weight were found dropped on more than two dozen doorsteps in a Sumas Mountain neighbourhood. They were also distributed in Misision.
