Improvements to school district website

Online users will find changes made to online information about Abbotsford schools.

Now that the new school year has begun, online users may have noticed improvements to the Abbotsford School District website.

The new site, www.sd34.bc.ca, was developed after months of planning and research, and launched in early summer.

“One of our key strategic plan goals is to improve communication and public engagement,” said board of education chair John Sutherland.

“Our new district website is a significant improvement to our online presence, and we believe it provides an improved communication experience for the public, as well as our employees,” he said.

“Our staff has spent the summer adding content to the site and fully testing it.”

The site features a simplified, cleaner design that’s easier to navigate, for students, parents, educators, employees or the community.

“We feel we’ve now got a website that better responds to those demands.”

Parents and students who visit Abbotsford School District on the Internet will more easily find information about the services and programs designed for students.

Sutherland explained that the new system creates greater efficiency and helps district departments and schools publish timely and useful information more easily and quickly.

But the new site is just the beginning. During the first phase of the website project almost all district departments, along with six schools have had new sites developed and launched.

Through the coming year, the remainder of the district’s departments along with all elementary schools will launch their respective websites.

“Our district mission statement is to ‘Prepare and inspire students for a lifetime of success through respect, opportunity and innovation,’” said Sutherland.

“We are optimistic that our new web presence will help to inform the public about the many ways that we are fulfilling this commitment, and ultimately help make our district one of the best in the country.”
