Abbotsford may learn today if it’s in line for new modular housing for homeless men and women.

The city and province have been in discussions on the creation of new modular units, which were a key component of the BC NDP’s pledge to make housing more affordable.

Yesterday, the province has announced a press conference would be held on Tuesday at the Riverside Road shelter in Abbotsford “to celebrate new housing projects in Abbotsford.” The housing minister and Abbotsford Mayor Henry Braun are both slated to be present.

The event will take place at 11 a.m. Details won’t be released until then.

When it opened in late 2015, the Riverside Road shelter was originally designed to be temporary. But agreements to keep the shelter opened have been repeatedly renewed without fanfare.
