Rowdy party-goers and unsafe boat operators will be watched closely this summer as the RCMP schedule’s enhanced patrols of Kawawka Lake.

The popular Hope-area destination attracts water sport enthusiasts and visitors who enjoy the boating and beach life the lake offers. In recent years, however, police have noted a spike in bad behaviour being reported to the Hope RCMP from the May long weekend through to Labour Day.

“Included with the influx of people during the summer months, there are those who choose not to play nicely in the water,” said Hope RCMP Staff Sgt. Travis De Coene. “Strict enforcement by our officers can be expected both at the lake and areas surrounding the lake.”

Enhanced patrols will be Running from May 22 through Sep. 6, with assurances from the RCMP that regular police services to the community won’t be negatively impacted.

“We encourage everyone to remain respectful while they enjoy their activities at the lake,” De Coene said. “Still, the safety of the public is always our priority.”
