Highway 11, the busy transit route connecting Mission to Abbotsford, has finally been re-opened.

The highway was opened on Dec. 6 and can now be used by passenger vehicles, municipal service vehicles and emergency service vehicles, according to the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

A single lane in each direction in the southbound lanes between Hazelwood Avenue and Clayburn Road are being utilized, while the northbound lanes remain closed as further repairs are done, according to the ministry, noting there is no left turn onto Highway 11 from Valley Road.

Delays are still expected.

The busy transit route has been cut off in both directions between Hazelwood Avenue and Townshipline Road since Nov. 15, after the flooding caused extensive damage that required extensive assessments.

Traffic was re-routed to Downes Road, but congestion became a problem as there was a no-left turn on Gladwin Road due to construction.

Abbotsford’s rural, single-lane back roads became clogged on a daily basis, with commercial-transport vehicles and commuters attempting to navigate roads unsuitable for the heavy traffic.

The restrictions on travel along Highway 7 between Mission and Hope have also been officially been lifted.

In a Monday (Dec. 6) evening news release, the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure announced travellers can use Highway 7 for daily activities once more, including commuting to work, driving students to school or attending appointments.

The ministry advises motorists to continue to expect congestion with the restrictions being lifted.
