Abbotsford Police seized replica handguns

A 29-year-old man is facing charges after police seized heroin, cash and five replica handguns from an Abbotsford apartment on Tuesday night.

Members of the Abbotsford Police Department drug enforcement unit, with the assistance of the emergency response team and patrol division officers, executed a search warrant at about 11:30 p.m. at a residence in the 2100 block of McKenzie Road.

Const. Ian MacDonald said police seized $1,000 cash, 18 grams of heroin packaged into 78 baggies, and five replica handguns.

MacDonald said the guns, if used during an offence, could easily fool anyone.

"People who possess these types of replica guns want people to think they're real," he said.

MacDonald said three people were detained, but only the 29-year-old man faces charges. He is known to police, and has prior convictions for weapons and property crime.

Police have recommended charges of possession for the purposes of trafficking. The man's name cannot be released until he is formally charged.
