Hedge fire on Saturday one of several during hot weather

Saturday's fire scorched side of an apartment building

Abbotsford firefighters snuffed out a hedge fire Saturday evening – but not before it scorched the siding of an apartment building.

The blaze – which started around 11:15 p.m. – was one of several hedge fires in recent weeks during a prolonged spell of hot, dry weather, according to Abbotsford Fire Rescue Service assistant fire chief Dave Rivett.

"It's kind of normal in the summertime," he said.

Saturday's fire was confined to the exterior of the building and extinguished, with no injuries reported.
