Harper in Abbotsford for temple celebration

Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Premier Christy Clark have both confirmed their attendance for Sunday's Centennial Anniversary Celebration of the Gur Sikh Temple.

Prime Minister Stephen Harper and Premier Christy Clark have both confirmed their attendance for Sunday's Centennial Anniversary Celebration of the Gur Sikh Temple.

Harper and other officials, including the Consul General of India, will speak at the temple, located at 33089 South Fraser Way, beginning at 10:30 a.m.

A parade begins at the temple at 11 a.m. – a religious procession led by the Sikh holy scriptures. It will proceed west along South Fraser Way, turning north onto Gladwin Road, then travel west on Maclure Road, and end at Abbotsford Exhibition Park at about 1 p.m.

Road closures will be in effect. In preparation for the event, a full road closure between Bourquin and Ware streets will begin at 7:30 a.m.

The procession will end with festivities at Rotary Stadium, which will see more speeches, food, children's programs and other fun activities.
