World-renowned author and addictions expert Dr. Gabor Mate will speak in Abbotsford later this month.

Mate worked with addiction mental illness and HIV patients in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside for 12 years. He wrote In the Realm of the Hungry Ghost about the connection between addiction and trauma, partially based on his time working for the Portland Hotel Society.

His presentation – Prisoners of Childhood: Reconciling Justice with Trauma History, Healing and Resilience – will include conversations with people with histories of trauma, addiction and incarceration.

The talk will be held in the University of the Fraser Valley’s Evered Hall on Monday, Sept. 25 at 2:30 p.m. Admission is free and the public is welcome.
