Four all-candidates meetings remain in Abbotsford

The University of the Fraser Valley and the Abbotsford Chamber – and its partners – will host debates prior to the May 14 election.

Four all-candidates meetings remain for voters in the three local ridings.

The University of the Fraser Valley Political Science Student Association is hosting a pair of debates.

The first will take place on May 6 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on the Abbotsford Campus in room B101 and will feature candidates running in Abbotsford South.

Independent John van Dongen, BC Liberal Darryl Plecas, and BC NDP Lakhvinder Jhaj will  be in attendance.

Candidates will be handing out flyers, interacting with the public, and answering questions from 6-7p.m. The debate, moderated by Professor Hamish Telford, will take place from 7-8:30 p.m.

The next day, May 7, from 6-9 p.m. in the same location, candidates from Abbotsford West will take part in a debate.

Liberal Mike de Jong (current minister of finance), BC Green Stephen O’Shea, Conservative, Paul Redekopp, and BC NDP Sukhi Dhami will all be in attendance. Independent Moe Gill has yet to confirm his attendance.

Telford will again act as moderator.

All-candidates meeting are being held by the Abbotsford Chamber of Commerce, the Fraser Valley Real Estate Board and the Fraser Valley Indo-Canadian Business Association.

• Abbotsford South, Thursday, May 2 at Matsqui Centennial Auditorium, 32315 South Fraser Way

• Abbotsford-Mission riding, Tuesday, May 7 at Christian Life Community Church, 35131 Straiton Rd.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. for both,  and they will run from 7 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
